Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) Certificate
This ASE-certified program prepares students for entry-level positions as automotive technicians. Students participate in realistic training experiences that prepare them for pre-apprenticeship training and ASE certification. Cooperative work experience is available with instructor’s permission. Credits will depend on time spent in co-op.
Included in this program are academic courses in communication, quantitative reasoning, and social sciences that provide knowledge and abilities that enhance personal development and serve as a foundation for technical skills.
General Certificate Requirements
To receive a certificate in an automotive program, all technical courses must be completed with a 2.0 GPA or higher. Students must complete the Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate before taking engine performance, transmission, or drivetrain classes. Students who opt for the Ford Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate must take the Ford Maintenance and Light Repair elective courses while completing their Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate. For Ford MLR, students need to have a valid driver license and will be charged one-time enrollment fee ($150).To remain in both programs, all students must have the required textbooks by the start of the third week of classes and the required tools by the start of the second quarter.
Program Length
This program is approximately 3 quarters long, depending on the time students need to satisfactorily complete all graduation requirements.
Admission Dates
Students may enter at the start of fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters.
Program Outcomes

• Adhere to industry standards, ethical guidelines, and safety protocols in all aspects of automotive maintenance and repair activities.
• Apply current and emerging technologies to the maintenance and repair processes.
• Repair automotive heating and air conditioning systems.
• Repair automotive electrical and electronic systems.
• Repair steering, suspension and brake systems.
Perform routine preventive maintenance services.
Completion Requirements
Prerequisites: To enroll Ford MLR program, students need to have a valid driver license and pay for $150. The MLR Certificate does not need driver license and no additional fee is required.

Additional Courses Required for Ford MLR Certificate ONLY
These elective courses prepare automotive technicians for employment by providing manufacturer specific hands-on training and an additional certification from the Ford Motor Company while completing their Maintenance and Light Repair Program Certificate. These courses are offered in a hybrid learning environment.
