Refinishing Technician Certificate
Skilled automotive collision refinishing technicians may be employed in new car dealerships and independent auto collision shops, as well as industrial and government agency motor pools.
Graduates of this program will enter the trade with considerable practical skills gained through hands-on repair experience throughout the program.
Students in Automotive Collision Technician programs must pass all technical classes with a grade of “C” (2.0) or higher in order to enroll in the next quarter program courses shown on the degree or certificate education plan. To remain in the program, all students must have the required textbooks by the start of the third week of classes and the required tools by the start of the second quarter. To receive a certificate or degree in an automotive program, all technical courses must be completed with a “C” (2.0) GPA or higher.
Program Length
This program is approximately two quarters long, depending on the time students need to satisfactorily complete all graduation requirements.
Admission Dates
Summer, fall, winter, and spring quarters.
Program Outcomes
• Communicate refinishing job specifications, paint mixing instructions, and repair recommendations with co-workers and supply personnel to achieve high quality repairs.
• Analyze surface imperfections and refinishing needs to apply appropriate repair techniques, to ensure high-quality finishes.
• Comply with industry safety regulations, proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, and EPA, OSHA and Dept. of Ecology rules and guidelines.
• Utilize refinishing equipment, digital color-matching and paint mixing technology, and EPA compliant spray gun systems to efficiently apply topcoats and coatings that meet industry standards.
