The Groundman Certificate is an intensive, two-quarter program designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the electrical utility industry. This program provides comprehensive training in the essential ground operations that support power line construction and maintenance. Students will gain hands-on experience in site preparation, equipment handling, safety practices, and underground utility work.
Throughout the program, students will learn how to safely and efficiently dig pole and anchor holes, frame and set poles, and prepare sites for line work. They will develop proficiency in operating and maintaining ground-level tools and equipment such as trucks, diggers, cranes, roto hammers, and jackhammers. Emphasis is placed on safety practices and hazard management specific to ground operations, including adherence to OSHA regulations, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and implementation of emergency response procedures. The curriculum also covers underground utility work, including assisting with the installation and maintenance of underground cables and conduits.
