Welding Technology Associate of Applied Technology Degree
The Welding Technology AAT program prepares students for careers in welding and fabrication through hands-on training in industry-standard welding processes. This comprehensive program develops proficiency in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) across various materials, including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Students will gain experience in blueprint reading, welding symbols, metallurgy, and fabrication principles while emphasizing safety, quality control, and welding inspection practices to meet industry standards.
Graduation Requirements
Students pursing an AAT degree must
· Complete all college degree requirements prior to graduation.
· Attempt a minimum of one WABO/AWS certification exam.
Program Length
This program is approximately five quarters long, depending on the time students need to satisfactorily complete all graduation requirements.
Admission Dates
Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Weekend programs: Summer, fall, winter, and spring quarters.
Program Outcomes
• Use shop tools and equipment for layout and fabrication welding projects.
• Apply principles of metallurgy and materials testing to assess the structural integrity and quality of joint design, fit up and welds.
• Apply advanced welding theory, thermal cutting and gouging, and the operation of industrial machinery.
• Interpret welding blueprints, prints, and technical documentation to accurately plan and execute welding projects.
• Use appropriate base metals, welding processes, and filler metals to meet WABO/AWS codes and standards.
• Perform a minimum of one WABO/AWS certification exam.
