HVAC - Associate of Applied Technology Degree
Prepares students for positions in the heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration industry. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions as service technicians, building maintenance technicians, equipment assemblers, and start-up residential and light commercial installers. Students will participate in work-based training through realistic training activities on campus.
Included in this program are academic courses in communication, quantitative reasoning, and social sciences that provide knowledge and abilities that enhance personal development and serve as a foundation for technical skills.
This program is approved as an HVAC/Refrigeration (06A) specialty electrical training program in the state of Washington.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates applying to become an HVAC/Refrigeration (06A) specialty electrician can be credited with an estimated 960 hours of work experience. This program is not applicable to any other electrical specialty or sub-category.
Students pursuing an AAT degree must complete all college degree requirements prior to graduation. Students are required to pass seven nationally recognized certification exams during the program. All technical courses must be completed with a minimum “C” grade to receive the degree
Program Length
This program is approximately four quarters long, depending on the time students need to satisfactorily complete all graduation requirements.

Summer, fall, winter, and spring quarters.

Communication: Communicate HVAC/R system conditions, diagnostic findings, and repair recommendations using appropriate technical language and documentation for diverse audience
Critical Thinking: Troubleshoot residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC/R systems by applying theoretical principles, performance data, and logical reasoning to determine effective solutions.
Professional Responsibility: Apply safety, environmental, and regulatory standards to HVAC/R work practices to support professional responsibility and sustainable operations.
Technological Literacy: Operate HVAC/R diagnostic tools, equipment, and technologies to evaluate system performance and complete industry-standard repairs.
